How to extract soybean oil in soybean oil processing plant?

There are two methods to extract soybean oil in soybean oil processing plant, one is pressing method, which is a traditional method that use screw press machine to squeeze oil out from seeds and kernels; The other is solvent extraction method that extract soybean oil with solvent.

Both two oil production methods have advantages and disadvantages. The pressing method is natural and healthy but the oil yield is much lower, because the oil content of soybean is low, only 16-24%. However, oil yield of the solvent extraction method is much more higher. So the production of commercial soybean oil is usually use solvent extraction method. First the pretreated soybeans flakiness are sent into a solvent extractors and immerged with a solvent, normally hexane. Counterflow is used as extraction system because it gives the highest yield. After removing the hexane, the extracted flakes only contain about 1% of soybean oil and is used as livestock meal or to produce food products such as soy protein. The hexane is separated from the soybean oil in evaporators. The evaporated hexane is recovered and returned to the extraction process. The hexane free crude soybean oil is then further purified.

1. Pre-treatment Process

The materials(for pretreatment) are sent to rotary extraction by the scraper conveyor, extracted by the solvent so that oil fats can be dissolved. After this step, you will get meal and mixed oil. After that the meal is sent to the toaster, through which the solvent will separate from the meal. Then the solvent goes to condenser and is recycled to rotary extraction. Consequently, after the solvent is completely evaporated and left with purified oil fats, the crude oil is gained.

However, the crude oil still can not be used for human diet due to various impurities produced by the leaching process. Because some purities are extremely harmful to human being. 1. Degumming and deacidification section:

Degumming is using phosphoric acid ,water to react crude oil and then separate phosphatide from oil. But in order to reduce more phosphatide, after enough phosphoric acid treatment, adding alkali inside oil to neutralize free fatty acid , and washing before gum separation , this process is called deacidification.

2.Decoloration section

Decoloration is using clay to bleach oil , in this step, clay will absorb dark colorant of oil .The quantity of clay is depending on the deepness of crude oil. After bleaching , used clay will be screened out by vibrating screen.

3.Deodorization section

This step is to remove some unnecessary odors from crude oil. Normally for chemical oil refining ,it adopts plate deodorizing tower using high temperature steam to remove odors.

Decoloring: 0.5%

Soybean Oil Leaching Equipment Process

Soybean oil leaching is the process of extracting oil from oil seeds by organic solvent, which uses the principle of application extraction.

A total of four processes are included in the oil leaching section:
1.Oil leaching
2.Exsolution and drying of wet meal
3.Evaporation of mixed oil
4.Condensation and recovery of solvent vapor.

In general, using n-hexane to spray and soak oil seeds, the oil in oil seeds is extracted and mixed oil and solid residue (wet meal) are obtained.

 

 

The mixed oil is vaporized by different boiling points with vaporization machine, so that the solvent is vaporized into steam to separate from the oil, thus obtaining the oil (leached crude oil).The solvent vapour continues to be recycled after condensation and cooling.

A certain amount of solvent is also found in the wet meal, which can be dried after the drying process. The solvent vapor released in the process of dissolving and drying can be recycled by condensation and cooling.

 

 

Generally, after the pretreatment and press section, the oil seeds with high oil content such as peanuts still contains a large amount of oil in the peanut cake. After the process of leaching, the oil content in the cake can be less than 1%. And the oil seeds with low oil content such as soya, can be directly leach without pre-pressing, and the oil yield will improve.
